Blesson Chacko, PhD

Managing Director/Scientist

Blesson graduated with a 1st (Hons) in Master of Mathematics in 2014 and completed his PhD in Mathematical Modelling in 2017 at Loughborough University. He started as a Modeller in BAST from February 2017 and his ability allowed him to progress quickly to Senior Modeller. In early 2023 he was promoted to Managing Director and Scientist, taking over the leadership of BAST from Jon Moss. He handles to the day-to-day management of BAST but continues to be involved in many modelling and simulation projects.

Adam Lloyd, PhD

Scientific Director

Adam holds a BSc in Mathematics and a PhD in mathematical modelling. As a former post doc, he studied mathematical modelling of nuclear materials at Loughborough University. He joined BAST early in 2019 as a Modeller, was promoted to Senior Modeller in late 2021 and then progressed quickly to Scientific Director in early 2023. He now shares the leadership of BAST with Blesson Chacko, having taken over from Jon Moss. He is involved in all modelling and simulation projects at BAST.

Jon graduated with a 1st (Hons) in Master of Mathematics in 2012 and completed his PhD in mathematical physics in 2014. He joined BAST in 2014 as a modeller and was promoted to associate director in 2018. In summer 2019 he took over the leadership of BAST from Joachim Grevel. In early 2023 he handed over the leadership of BAST to Blesson Chacko and Adam Lloyd, continuing as a Senior Scientist. Jon continues to be involved in many projects at BAST and has directly contributed to modelling and simulation support of multiple successful NDA filings.

Joachim Grevel, PhD

Senior Consultant

Joachim was trained in Pharmacy at the University of Munich until 1979 and got his PhD in Pharmacology in 1982. He retrained as a molecular pharmacologist at the University of California San Francisco during postdoctoral studies (1984) and as a clinical pharmacologist with emphasis on population methods at the University of Glasgow (1987). He was on the faculty of the University of Texas, Medical School at Houston. He founded BAST Inc in 1991 in Houston. He worked for various pharmaceutical companies before restarting BAST in 2010 in England. In 2019 he handed over the leadership of BAST to Jon Moss and continues as a senior consultant.

Joachim Grevel, PhD

Rupert Austin, PhD

Senior Scientist

Rupert holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from University College London. He worked for 17 years in pre-clinical Physical Chemistry and DMPK at AstraZeneca before joining BAST as a pharmacometrician in 2011. He is experienced in all phases of clinical drug development and several therapeutic areas, with specific expertise in paediatric PKPD modelling and simulation, exposure-response analysis and concentration-QTc modelling.

Josh Veasy, PhD

Senior Modeller

Josh holds a PhD in the field of Mathematical Medicine and Biology from the University of Nottingham. His main areas of focus were deterministic modelling and stability analysis. He joined BAST in December 2019 and has since applied his extensive skill-set to various areas of pharmacometric modelling and simulation.

Michael Watts, PhD

Modeller

Michael holds an Msc in Physics and a PhD in (computational) Chemistry from Loughborough University, UK. He Joined BAST as a Modeller during the summer of 2020. He has experience in the development and simulation of population PK/PD models and is constantly expanding his expertise.

Jack Paget, PhD

Modeller

Jack joined BAST in the spring of 2023 as a modeller. After graduating in 2019 from Oxford University with an MMATH, he completed a PhD in mathematical physics from Loughborough University, focusing on the modelling and simulation of structured fluids. He now applies these mathematical modelling skills to pharmacometric projects at BAST

Shiju Joseph, PhD

Data Expert

Shiju holds a PhD in biomedical engineering and has a strong background in medical image and clinical data processing. He joined BAST in 2017 as a modeller but recently found his strength in data processing and re-formatting. Today, Shiju closely supports the data needs of pharmacometric modellers, both internally at BAST and in direct response to client needs.

Aaron Hayman, MSc

Systems Developer

Aaron holds a masters degree in physics from Loughborough University. His primary role is to develop programs and tools to streamline operations at BAST and to ensure consistent, reproducible quality.

Shilpa Antony

Administrative Assistant

Shilpa joined BAST in early 2023 as an administrative specialist. Her roles include facilities management, maintenance of HR and monitoring of financial accounts.
